Remembering 9/11 - 15 Years Later

The Tri Counties Blue Star Moms are hosting the 9/11 Remembrance - 15 Year Anniversary event on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Honker Stadium, Yuba City High School - 850 B Street, Yuba City. The event will start precisely at 8:30 am to coincide with the tragic events on 9/11/01.

This will be a commemorative and patriotic event to remember those who died on that tragic day and honor those who continue to protect our lives, homes, and liberties.

Speakers include Captain Shon Harris of CHP; Chief Pete Daley of YC Fire Department; Ron Sullenger, Veteran; and Dorian Kittrell who set up the American Red Cross response in New York on 9/11.

Master of Ceremonies will be John Cassidy and Art Brandwood, Sutter Co Sherrif (Ret.) will provide the invocation and benediction. Our local veterans will participate in the Opening Ceremonies and provide the POW/MIA flag ceremony, Folding of the American Flag ceremony, Disposal of American Flag ceremony, 21-Gun Salute and TAPS.

The "Cheap Suits" Flying Club will provide the fly-over while Lisel McPherrin of the San Francisco Opera sings the National Anthem. Children from the New Adventures Preschool will sing Patriotic songs.

The track will be lined with 343 Fire Department flags and 60 American Flags tied with black and blue ribbons representing the Firefighters and Police officers who died on 9/11/01. There will also be 756 American Flags each with a name and picture of a Fallen California service member who has died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11. At the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone will be asked to walk the track to view the flags and commemorate the actions of Stephen Siller, NY Firefighter. He was headed home after his shift when he heard about the planes crashing into the Towers. He went back to his station but everyone had left.

He grabbed his gear and started driving to the Towers. He was stopped due to security, he put on his 60lbs of gear and ran 2-miles to the Towers. He was seen at the Towers, but never made it home.

Law Enforcement and Fire Department vehicles will be on display for the public to view. This is a free event and open to the public.
